Master: The Overlocker / Serger

There is so much to learn about the overlocker! It can do so much more than just neaten up your seams. We are constantly being asked to create a overlocker based workshop, so here it is!


Craig, your host, will unleash all the different kinds of sewing you can achieve with your overlocker, as well as replacing parts and machine maintenance.


If you have recently purchased an overlocker, or are thinking of purchasing one, then this workshops is the one for you!


During this 2 hour workshop your tutor will cover EVERYTHING you need to know to become confident with your machine.


Workshop content:


  • Blades - upkeep and changing
  • Needles - Types and changing
  • Accessories - feet / tweezers / cone holders / etc
  • Threads to use
  • Threading your overlocker - (simplified!)
  • Changing thread colour without a total rethread
  • Tension 
  • Differential feed (what the heck is that?!)
  • Cutting width selection
  • 4 thread or 3 thread sewing options
  • Creating a rolled hem - removing the finger plate
  • Flatlock seam
  • Sewing a blind hem
  • Sewing in elastic
  • Gathering foot - 1 layer and 2 layers of fabric
  • Cleaning and oiling - machine maintenance



We will be teaching the workshop on Brother 1034D / 3034D / 2104D overlocker machines. Each model is basically the same, with a few minor differences which will be explained in your workshop.



Please note:We can only teach this group workshop on Brother ovlerlockers, as we will be using specialise feet, specifically for brother.

You can then transfer this information, to your own brands of overlockers you may have at home.

You will recieve a worksheet to take home with you.


If you would like to learn, soley on your own machine, then you will need to book a private tuition session.

Your safety is important to us!


On entering, we will have sanitiser stations for you to to freshen up. All machinery, sewing stations, and tools you will be using, will be sanitised before you arrive, and between each session.

At your sewing station you will also have sanitiser wipes, should you feel you need to use them.

Our lavatories are communal, but they will be supplied with santiser wipes, hand wash and disposable towels.


Face masks:

You are welcome inside with or without a mask, but please respect the choices of others, should they choose to wear a mask or not.


    Just turn up on the day!

    If you are bringing your own machine, let us know the make and model at least a day before your booking date


    You can cancel or amend a booking up to 7 days before your booking date. 

    Please note: Doors close 15 minutes after the start time on all workshops. We do not offer reschedules or refunds to latecomers, or outside of our policy.

    Please give yourself plenty of time to travel and find the studio. Doors are open 15 minutes before the start time.

    This workshop is suitable for 14 years and above. All students under the age of 17, must be accompanied by a participating adult.
