Master: The Overlocker / Serger

Master: The Overlocker / Serger

There is so much to learn about the overlocker! It can do so much more than just neaten up your seams. We are constantly being asked to create a overlocker based workshop, so here it is!

Craig, your host, will unleash all the different kinds of sewing you can achieve with your overlocker, as well as replacing parts and machine maintenance.

If you have recently purchased an overlocker, or are thinking of purchasing one, then this workshops is the one for you!

During this 2 hour workshop your tutor will cover EVERYTHING you need to know to become confident with your machine.

Workshop content:

  • Blades - upkeep and changing
  • Needles - Types and changing
  • Accessories - feet / tweezers / cone holders / etc
  • Threads to use
  • Threading your overlocker - (simplified!)
  • Changing thread colour without a total rethread
  • Tension
  • Differential feed (what the heck is that?!)
  • Cutting width selection
  • 4 thread or 3 thread sewing options
  • Creating a rolled hem - removing the finger plate
  • Flatlock seam
  • Sewing a blind hem
  • Sewing in elastic
  • Gathering foot - 1 layer and 2 layers of fabric
  • Cleaning and oiling - machine maintenance

We will be teaching the workshop on Brother 1034D and 2104D overlock machines. Each model is basically the same, with a few minor differences which will be explained in your workshop.

You are welcome to bring your own overlocker, but you must arrive 15 minutes before the start time to set you machine up at your station (it must be in fully working order, we do not fix machines during the workshop duration)

Please note: If you do bring your own overlocker, you may not be able to use all of the different Brother overlocker feet, to try out the different techniques we will be teaching. It is advisable that you contact the studio to inform us of the make and model of the machine you would like to bring, so we can set up both your and our machines for you.

Just turn up on the day!

If you are bringing your own machine, let us know the make and model at least a day before your booking date

You can cancel or amend a booking up to 7 days before your booking date.

Please note: Doors close 15 minutes after the start time on all workshops. We do not offer reschedules or refunds to latecomers, or outside of our policy.

Please give yourself plenty of time to travel and find the studio. Doors are open 15 minutes before the start time.
